The Dr. Nekhorvich Rescue Mission was a mission conducted by the Impossible Missions Force in 1968 to rescue scientist Vladimir Nekhorvich.

Mission[]

In 1968, Russian scientist Vladimir Nekhorvich was kidnapped by USSR terrorists at his research facility and was being held hostage. IMF agent Jim Phelps, went on a mission to Russia to save Nekhorvich from the terrorists. Eventually, Phelps defeats the terrorists and rescues Nekhorvich. Nekhorvich shows Phelps his upcoming project, which later was revealed as the Chimera virus and it’s cure, Bellerophon.

Aftermath[]

Years after his rescue, Nekhorvich went on to continue his work and join the Australian pharmaceutical corporation Biocyte Pharmaceuticals, where he took part in a secret project called 'Project Chimera', which resulted in the creation of the Chimera virus and its cure, Bellorophon. Nekhorvich started to regret about creating the virus.

In 1989, British buissnessman John C. McCloy had acquired Biocyte in a "hostile takeover" and had become Nekhorvich's boss. McCloy also learned about the project and took control over it. On March 1999, Nekhorvich injected himself with the virus to prevent McCloy on puting his hands on it and was planning to travel from Sydney to Atlanta to deliver the viral culture to the US government in order to expose criminal use of the 'Chimera' sample, but was killed by Sean Ambrose during the flight.

Phelps' former protege, Ethan Hunt had McCloy kiddnaped with the help of his team to force him to give up Bellerophon. However, they learn that the only samples of Bellerophon were taken by Nekhorvich, and were in Ambrose's hands. Ambrose has the cure, but does not have the virus. As a result, Ambrose forced McCloy to exchange a sample of the virus for a sample of Bellerophon. Ethan broke into Biocyte Phramaceuticals, discovered a conspiracy involving Biocyte and destroyed all but one sample of the virus. Ambrose captured Nyah Nordoff-Hall and raids Biocyte to secure the virus. Ambrose orderd Nyah to retrieve the last sample of Chimera, but she injected herself with it, preventing Ambrose from simply killing her to get it.

However, despite this, Ethan managed to locate Nyah, retrieve Bellorophon and expose the Chimera Project. With the project exposed and the virus destroyed, Biocyte Pharmaceuticals was shut down by the Australian government and McCloy was arrested.
